Although, there are a number of perks to chose from, they are randomly generated in groups of three when available. For instance, the Hardened perk can be chosen twice to double its Armor effect, which normally increases the Marine's Armor point by 1. Perks are cumulative and you can stack them to have an even greater impact on your Marines' attributes. Once your Marine goes beyond Level 6, they will have a maximum of 8 Common Attributes slots, where you can assign perks in the available slots. These can usually be found under the Class Attributes and on top of the Upgrades slots.
Each Rookie will start off with two attributes available before they reach Level 3, which is when you can start promoting your Marine as well. Perks are also known as Common Attributes within your Marine's profile or stats menu.
